Committee Volunteer Opportunities at Side Rail

Side Rail is a volunteer run collective. Share the work necessary to run the collective and watch it flourish! Collectives are reciprocal organizations - the benefits we receive are proportional to what we each offer.

Admin

The Admin committee handles the finances, organizational systems, facilities and things like insurance etc. Reach out to Kate via Slack DM, text (206-948-9850) or email.

  • 2hr/month (estimated time commitment)

    Join our leadership committee and assist us in being the best we can be at communication, and systems. This role will participate in our leadership group and help us strategize and make decisions that will help form the direction of Side Rail. The individual who takes this on will be responsible for Scheduling leadership and all member meetings, working with other fearless leaders to create Meeting Agendas, Meeting Notes. This member will update our members hand book and other systems to keep them current, clear and easy to follow. This member also checks our side rail email routinely to make sure emails get to the person who needs them.

There are lots of ways to help the Side Rail Gallery — show up as an artist (propose/curate a show), or show up as a volunteer (sitting, hanging, Art Attack open/close). Marketing

Do you have skills and ideas that could help us promote Side Rail, increase membership and event attendance? We know with your help we can build our beautiful community and reach more folks.

  • ~2 hours/month (estimated time commitment) 

    Checking and responding to DMs, Scheduling monthly calendar post, reposting, approving posts.

  • 1-4 hours/month (estimated time commitment)
    Support Committee leads with creating content specific posts video reels etc . We could use multiple folks interested in helping with design and content creation.

    • Designing monthly calendar post with all events for the month for social

    • Reformatting digital design to printed format.

    • Print and post at side rail

    Manage members page, Manage Web Performance, and Updates

  • 1hr/month (estimated time commitment)
    Off-site poster distribution and management

    Reaching out to get our events etc scheduled on local calendars and publications

Nomad

How can we make the Nomad Experience the best it can be? Would you be interested in helping to build our membership or membership programs? Reach out to Kate via Slack DM, text (206-948-9850) or email.

  • 3-4 hours/month (estimated time commitment) 

    Have you looked around the Nomad Studio and thought of ways to improve it? Then this job is for you. This could easily be a small group of people or an individual who helps to organize + manage the Nomad Studio. They will have a monthly budget to Maintain + Purchase Supplies. This role will imagine updates to the Nomad Studio including proposing a budget and timeline for any special projects to the leadership committee quarterly. They will be responsible for Minor repairs and will manage supply donations

  • 1 to 4 hours/month anticipated time commitment

    One on one contact with potential new members has proven to be our number one way to increase membership. This volunteer role would help with outreach to prospective members, conducting interviews etc. Help Kate build our membership and our community.

  • Do you have an idea for building community amongst members at Side Rail? We would welcome more ideas and reasons to get together. Consider hosting a new members only event or helping to host our existing events. 

Programming

The programming committee is responsible for coordination with non-member instructors, space rental and with sessions, workshops etc that are open to the public and that are a key revenue source for Side Rail.

    Do you have an idea for a workshop you would like to run and you don’t mind not getting paid for running it? Or maybe you are willing to split the proceeds with Side Rail. Consider finding a buddy to co-host a session as this makes it a lighter lift!

    Host + Lead (1) 2 hour Session per month plus set up + clean up; Manage Skedda Scheduling; Donation Collection; Produce Monthly Promotional Reel or Post

Clay/Kiln

Are you interested in clay, learning to fire the kiln or in helping us grow clay at Side Rail?

  • We are just getting the clay program off the ground. We don’t have specific jobs right now, so just reach out if you are interested and have ideas.
