Gallery Open Hours - Softer Lands
softer lands
A Textile Exploration of Stewardship and Landscape
Side Rail Collective is proud to announce Softer Lands, an exhibition that re-envisions our relationship with the environment through the lens of fiber arts. Featuring fibrous landscapes—ranging from abstract to representational—the show challenges the objectifying view of land as a resource, proposing instead a view of the land as kin.
In response to the realities of climate change and fast consumption, Softer Lands highlights the power of slow craft. Artists utilize techniques such as mending, dyeing, and repurposing to explore ecological memory and environmental repair. The title suggests a softening of our own perspective and ultimately, it asks if we can weave a more sustainable future for the rough and beautiful world we inhabit.

Word To A Mother:
Explore“the mother” in her various forms—parent, ancestor, planet—in a workshop that weaves personal reflection into Side Rail Collective’s recent gallery shows: Invisible Threads and Softer Lands.
We’ll play in stream-of-conscious writing and erasure poetry, using our own writing and collage to deepen connection to the mother(s) who shape us. Our final act, on this week before Mother’s Day: a letter for a mother, yours or anyone’s (or no one’s).
Perfect for any curious human craving reflection, connection, and play.

Open Gallery Hours — Invisible Threads: Matrilineages of Blood, Time, and Place
Invisible Threads:
Matrilineages of Blood, Time, and Place
In Invisible Threads: Matrilineages of Blood, Time, and Place, we trace the subtle but powerful connections that stretch across generations. Through this process of discovery, we uncover the silent legacies carried within our bodies, waiting to be heard. Art becomes a way to honor these matrilineal pathways, giving form to the unseen bonds that connect us to those who came before.
This exhibition challenges us to rethink the way we understand inheritance—not just as the passing down of genetic traits, but as the transmission of memory, wisdom, and strength. Through the act of artistic exploration, we can recover what was lost, reframe what was forgotten, and offer new narratives that give voice to the women who shaped the fabric of our being. In doing so, we not only uncover family mysteries but also reclaim the power of our matrilineal histories and our selfhood, illuminating the transcendental threads that link us all.
