Open Arts Night
Call for Artists
+ Performers
We are currently seeking individuals interested in being either featured performers or featured artists and activity instructors for our monthly Open Arts Night.
Open Arts Night - a fun, relaxed, community focused evening of performing and art making
The 2nd Thursday of each month from 7:30-10 pm, Open Arts Night is a collaboration between Acorn Collective and Side Rail Collective. Hosted in Georgetown at Side Rail, this event is a combined open mic and open visual arts activity. The open mic includes music, poetry, storytelling and spoken word. All ages and genders are invited and welcomed to our Open Arts events! The evening is a great opportunity to try out new work, and make friends in the process.
Compensation: Through a grant from 4Culture, we are able to offer compensation for selected teaching artists and featured performers.
$100 for featured teaching artist
$75 for featured performer
We also have a budget of $25 for art supplies. We will coordinate in advance with teaching artists about sourcing supplies.
Art activity and Featured Artist: Each month features a different art medium, introduced by a featured artist. The teaching artist should prepare an activity that showcases their medium of art, yet is easy to follow for any skill level. We include all art supplies for participants to use for the activity. The night will start with a 5 to 10-min introduction. Some attendees may arrive after the 7:30pm start time. The activity should be simple enough that people will be able to understand with a quick explanation. The featured artist is also encouraged to bring examples of their work to share.
Featured performer: The open mic portion of the event kicks off with a 30-min set from a featured performer. Following the performance, all attendees who would like to share music, spoken word, or other mediums of expression are encouraged to share. We encourage performers (but don’t require) performers to have a portion of the performance that engages the audience in participation. We intend to showcase a wide variety of performance genres and cultures. If there is a specific cultural tie-in that makes your performance unique, please highlight that.
