Invisible Threads: Matrilineages of Blood, Time, and Place | Art Attack
Invisible Threads:
Matrilineages of Blood, Time, and Place
In Invisible Threads: Matrilineages of Blood, Time, and Place, we trace the subtle but powerful connections that stretch across generations. Through this process of discovery, we uncover the silent legacies carried within our bodies, waiting to be heard. Art becomes a way to honor these matrilineal pathways, giving form to the unseen bonds that connect us to those who came before.
This exhibition challenges us to rethink the way we understand inheritance—not just as the passing down of genetic traits, but as the transmission of memory, wisdom, and strength. Through the act of artistic exploration, we can recover what was lost, reframe what was forgotten, and offer new narratives that give voice to the women who shaped the fabric of our being. In doing so, we not only uncover family mysteries but also reclaim the power of our matrilineal histories and our selfhood, illuminating the transcendental threads that link us all.

FEATURED ARTIST + ART ACTIVITY
Mónica Mendoza-Cawthon (Móni La Artivista) will lead the November Open Arts with a painting workshop centered around tapping into feelings, and exploring how the power of painting and art can bring us more joy. Let go ofthe need for perfection, learn to have fun and look at certain things in another way!
Mónica's creations are fueled by her passion for social and environmental causes, her rich Mexican heritage, and her love of science fiction, horror, and mysticism. Through her art and cultural endeavors, Mónica seeks to inspire others to dream boldly, heal deeply, and act courageously. Her hope is that her work will become both a mirror and a spark - reflecting truth, resilience, and the power to effect change.
FEATURED PERFORMER
Noe Navarro is a Costa Rican electric guitarist and singer-songwriter that mixes Afro-Latin American rhythms with a unique, soulful sound. Her expressive guitar sound and captivating voice define her style, creating a dynamic mix that draws listeners in. Her songs are characterized by electric guitar, vocals, and beatboxing, telling personal stories filled with metaphors and fantasies that invite listeners to look inward and question the hegemonic structures of today's society through tenderness, introspection, and inner dialogue.
