Sliding Scale Fees

Side Rail Collective is dedicated to cultivating a supportive inclusive space for creative ideas and pursuits while offering the community a no-commission and low fee environment to share their ideas and work.

In order to sufficiently cover the amount of time and energy put into organizing, curating, promoting, and hanging your work, while also honoring the education, experience, and capacity of our members, we do charge a hanging fee. However, we do not intend for everyone to pay full price. We encourage all prospective artists and makers to read through the following economic justice framework for sliding scale pricing and to freely and honestly navigate the suggested discount amounts.

Our intention is twofold:
1.) For those who have historically experienced economic injustice and/or who are presently experiencing financial strain to feel empowered to show their work at a reduced rate without any apprehension.

2.) For those with privilege and/or sufficient financial means to pay the higher end / full price. Those who fall into this latter category are also invited to pay more by using the tip function.

Economic Justice Framework

INSTRUCTIONS
Tier 1: Start with a 25% discount
Tier 2: Start with the full price

Follow these steps to tally up your discount. When submitting payment, add the appropriate discount % in the notes/messages section at checkout.

  • Start at 25% off the full price if you fit any of these descriptions:

    - I identify as a Black or Indigenous Person

    - I am disabled and this impacts my access to financial resources

    - I regularly stress about meeting my basic needs such as food, housing, & transportation and am not always able to achieve them.

    - I am neurodivergent and this impacts my access to financial resources

  • Start at the full price if you fit most of these descriptions:

    - I am white or white passing

    - I am comfortably able to meet all of my basic needs such as food, housing, and transportation

    - I may have some debt but it does not prohibit attainment of basic needs

    - I own my home or property -or- rent a higher end property

    - I am fully employed or do not need to work to meet my needs

    - I have access to some financial savings and/or generational wealth

    - I have expendable income

    - I can afford vacations, and/or to take time off from work

  • Tally an additional 5-10% off for each item that applies to you:

    - I identify as a non Black non Indigenous Person of Color

    - I may stress about meeting my basic needs such as food, housing, and transportation, but still regularly achieve them

    - I have no access to financial savings or generational wealth

    - I am actively involved in social justice work and/or advocacy for marginalized groups

    - I identify as trans or gender non-confirming
