Heads, Shoulders, Knees & Toes

Please submit your work to Side Rail Collective for inclusion in Heads, Shoulders, Knees & Toes: A Figurative Show in Many Pieces. We're looking for figurative work depicting individual body parts that will be curated and installed together to form composite "bodies" across the gallery walls — think Exquisite Corpse meets a community art show. A photorealistic hand might connect to an abstract torso, which meets an expressionistic head. The weirder the combination, the better! This is a show that celebrates the full range of styles, techniques, and perspectives within our creative community, and we want your corner of it represented. 

To be considered, please submit work that depicts one or more of the following body parts:

  • Heads / Faces

  • Torsos / Chests

  • Arms (left and/or right)

  • Hands

  • Hips / Pelvis

  • Legs (upper and/or lower)

  • Feet

And meets the following criteria:

  • Completed or close to completion (80% or more)

  • Depicts a single body part or combination of parts (full-body works will not be accepted)

  • 2D figurative work in painting, drawing, printmaking, collage, photography, mixed media, or assemblage with adequate hanging hardware

  • 3D figurative work (a small number may be accepted pending space)

Higher consideration will be given to work that is:

  • Under 24" in any dimension (large works may not be accepted due to gallery space)

  • Unique or underrepresented body parts. (For example, heads may be overrepresented in submissions while toes could earn you a spot.) 

Selected works will be arranged on the gallery walls to form composite bodies. Each figure will be labeled with all contributing artists' names and their body part, emphasizing the collaborative spirit of the show.

Important to note:

  • Free to Submit

  • Submit by July 5th

  • $30 (one time per artist) Hanging Fee is paid only by accepted artist – Fee Assistance & Volunteer Information

  • No commission is taken by the Gallery, Artist are paid directly via given digital payment method

  • Only submitted art will be considered (no swapping)

  • Exhibit will run from August 1st  through September 26th
